Drunken orgy

Description:Inside it was warm and fairly well attended but not crowded and our advance party had requisitioned table space sufficient for our needs. We rested on benches adjacent to a memorial to dead airmen and with some spectacular views over the former Downs anchorage, now with just one containership making its plunging way down channel running before wind and tide. There is really nothing more to say. The Shore party walked up the Hawkes Hill path around and across an area called The Freedown, once an airfield but now a natural meadow, somewhat overgrown with cow parsley and windblown supermarket bags, and home to a runaway dog, being chased by its keeper. We all chose seafood, mainly fresh fish, very well cooked in crispy batter, and with nice crisp chunky chips and peas on the side. It had been a short walk, in mucky conditions, but rewarded by a good la lunch, and a car ride with an exhausted dog and child to take home. The pub is located right on the shingle bank of the beach, and with a patio protected from breaking seas by a rock wall, but today was not the day to sit out.
